  • Don’t be fooled into buying the cheap brands of top-up paints. These can actually make things look worse than ever because they haven’t been designed for the paintwork on your car. The only scenario where a touch up paint could work is for tiny scratches, but always use with caution.

  • You will want to always make sure that you are getting a suitable paint. One way of doing this is to use your vehicle identification number to find out the exact type of paint you need for your vehicle. You can also do a bit of research online for your car type.

  • If your car has an enamelled based paint you are going to want something appropriate for this type of paintwork. You will need to discover if this is the case before you buy; a lot of new vehicles will use enamelled based paint.

  • You should clean the area of the vehicle where the scratch is located in order to remove and grit or dirt. You can use car soap or washing up liquid for this. You will also need to use sandpaper; 240-grit sandpaper is usually appropriate for this. After you have got the scratch as clean and smooth as possible you will then be able to use a primer.

  • If you have deep scratches then the car scratch repair is going to involve some type of body compound that will fill in these deep scratches. Do this job carefully and sandpaper down again when it is dry before applying the primer.
